For example, someone might enjoy running, which is intrinsic, but also participates in races to win medals or recognition, which is extrinsic. Number four intrinsic motivation is fixed and cannot change. Another misconception is that intrinsic motivation is a stable trait that doesn't change over time. In fact, intrinsic motivation can fluctuate based on various factors, including changes in personal interests, experiences and the environment. A person might initially find a task enjoyable but later lose interest or vice versa.
